Social isolation and loneliness forum, 31 March 2020
JoCare is hosting a Social Isolation and Loneliness forum on Tuesday 31st March, from 9:30am - 12:30pm at St Joseph's Parish Hall, 47 Stanhope Street, Malvern. The forum speakers include Dr Lidia Engel, Health Economist, and Mr Geoff Sharp, Director of Volunteering Victoria.
Social isolation and loneliness are a growing concern with well documented direct and indirect effects on physical and mental health. Belonging to a community which provides meaning and support and being involved in local activities can be vital for personal and communal well-being.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #3 supports health and well-being for all at all ages and #11 is to make cities and communities, inclusive safe, resilient and sustainable. Let us make these goals the centre of our community.
The forum will provide an opportunity to learn from experts in the field, and discuss how your organisation can contribute or benefit from initiatives that can increase connectedness within our local community, making it more inclusive, welcoming and neighbourly. This forum aims to bring together local community groups to begin to work together on small community initiatives to decrease social isolation and loneliness in the local community.
JoCare is a free home and residential volunteer care visiting program, currently providing connection and companionship to Stonnington residents.
The forum is free, but bookings are essential. Book here.
