Opening the Doors Foundation addresses the severe educational disadvantage still being experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families by providing assistance so that they are able to choose and successfully maintain a positive education environment for their children
Opening the Doors Foundation has Deductible Gift Recipient Status<br /> One funding round for financial assistance with education costs between October and the end of term 1<br /> Foundation is an initiative of the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry.
<em>SERVICES TO INDIGENOUS FAMILIES WITHIN THE INDEPENDENT EDUCATION SYSTEM</em>:<br /> The Foundation exists to help with the “extras” associated with a non-Gov education<br /> Grants are made to cover such things as:<br /> - excursions / camps (can cost as much as $600 in country areas)<br /> - book lists (including $200+ for calculators)<br /> - uniforms (blazers can cost up to $195)<br /> - VET / VCAL subjects (Individual subject levies can be between $150-250+)<br /> - leadership opportunities (Interstate and overseas travel costs are prohibitive for most families)<br /> - extra curricula activities especially where students show a particular talent for an area and need support to undertake specialist classes (e.g. advanced maths/ music/ sport)<br /> - tutorial support where a student needs extra help over and above what the school is able to provide.<br /> <br /> The Opening the Doors Foundation serves: <ul><li>to empower Aboriginal families to advocate to schools about their own needs</li><li>To raise awareness within Catholic Schools on Indigenous issues</li> </ul>
