Support for Asylum Seekers at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Kyneton
The Kyneton Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary continues to support asylum seekers through the provision of short term accommodation, material aid, the involvement of the local community (including the parish primary school and Sacred Heart College), links to the Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project
and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
During 2016, Fr Joe Ruys, Parish Priest, and parishioners sponsored the following activities:
* Supplied Devonshire teas at the Kyneton Daffodil Festival, rated the best at the Festival - a sellout, with $1800 donated to ASRC. This event will be repeated in August 2017 so all are welcome.
* ‘Chasing Asylum’ film night - soon to be repeated.
* On the third Sunday of each month, a food collection (for the pre-Christmas delivery to ASRC, there was just enough room for the driver!)
Kyneton Parish is central to the Macedon Ranges Rural Australians for Refugees, an inter-church group.
