CSSV Walking the Land with Catholic Social Teaching 28 November 2019 at Williamstown
Sixteen people gathered on Thursday 28 November 2019 at St Joseph’s By The Sea Spirituality Centre for the Catholic Social Services Victoria workshop entitled Walking The Land with Catholic Social Teaching. This third workshop for the year is the ‘coastal walk’ with the key principles of Catholic Social Teaching seen through the lens of Integral Ecology which is so richly presented throughout Pope Francis’ Laudato Si – On Care for Our Common Home.
The workshop day is very experience centred both personally and professionally for the participants. The day began with a guided reflection along the Williamstown shoreline which practically weaved the principles of Common Good, Human Dignity, Solidarity and Subsidiarity into the natural and human landscapes of creation from geophysical, indigenous, Gospel, colonial and current perspectives.
The emphasis on the day is to invite participants to deepen perspective as people of faith and connection with all creation and to experience and marvel at the interdependence of all living things.
The Catholic Education Office Melbourne is very supportive of this program and has again this year approved this workshop for six Professional Hours towards Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School.
Feedback on the day was extremely positive and people appreciated the less formal and interactive dynamics of the day.
Comments were along the lines of: “Thank you for providing a day that is both amazing professional development and allowed time for self-care that I neglect……Fabulous. Discussion, thought provoking questions………..The range and variety of activities – very active……….The most wonderful day! A rare opportunity to stop, reflect, listen and be with others. Practice what we preach.”
It is planned to offer the three Walking The Land with Catholic Social Teaching workshops again in 2020 in the following sequence:
City Justice Walk – 14 May; Yarra River Walk – 18 August; Coastal Walk – 19 November.
Bookings will open in early 2020 on the CSSV website. Welcome to come along for a comprehensive and different experience of Catholic Social Teaching through Integral Ecology which stresses the dignity and interdependence of all God’s creation.
