Mental Health Ecumenical Prayer Service
As Mental Health 2019 drew to a close, Catholic Social Services Victoria was pleased to support the parish community of St Pius X West Heidelberg in hosting an inter-faith prayer service in their church on Friday 11 October. Thirty-five people gathered to spend a prayerful hour in song, reflection and prayer to stand in solidarity and respect for the good mental health of all, but particularly to hold gently those among us who suffer from various forms of mental illness.
Visitors came from the surrounding Anglican, Uniting, Bahai and Catholic communities to pray for the common good of our world and the healing power of God’s love among us. Fr Wayne Edwards, Parish Priest of St Pius X Parish welcomed people to the service and commended them on their purposefulness and concern in joining together to ask God’s peace and love especially for those afflicted with mental health issues. There was a wonderful spirit of companionship and compassion among those gathered in a gentle and reflective space.
After the service the St Pius X community hosted a generous supper which created further opportunity for sharing and networking. Many thanks to Fr Wayne and the community for hosting and leading this important neighbourhood event.
