Masterclass on Pope Francis and Human Rights - 23 February 2018

As part of our national Catholic social services conference, Hearing Healing Hope (from 21-23 February in Melbourne), CEO of Catholic Social Services Australia, Fr Frank Brennan SJ AO will be hosting a Masterclass on Pope Francis and Human Rights - Moving Justice and Solidarity from the Dictionary to the Workplace of Catholic Social Services. This Masterclass is open to everybody (not just conference participants!)

Commenting on the Masterclass, Fr Frank Brennan said: "This year we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights. At the beginning of his pontificate in 2013, Pope Francis reflecting on the 50th anniversary of Pope John XXIII’s encyclical Pacem In Terris asked two questions:

‘Looking at our current reality, I ask myself if the words justice and solidarity are only in our dictionary or if we all work so that they become a reality?’
‘Pacem In Terris draws a line that goes from the peace to be built in the hearts of people to reviewing our model of development and of action at all levels so that our world may become a world of peace.

I ask myself, are we willing to accept this invitation?’

In this Masterclass, Frank Brennan will lead discussion and reflection on these two questions and the distinctive contribution Pope Francis is making to human rights in the Church and in the whole church.
