As part of the national Catholic social services conference, Hearing Healing Hope, 21 –
23 February 2018, at the Catholic Leadership Centre, East Melbourne, we have developed a comprehensive program that can be attended in whole, or in parts .
We commence on Wednesday evening with a 2.5 hour session titled 'A
healthy earth for a flourishing society: Implementing Laudato Si', which
focuses on Pope Francis’ call to ecological conversion. In this highly
interactive session, we’ll explore our interconnectedness
with nature and the earth and the society living in it; the intimate
relationship between the fragility of the planet and its impact on the
poor, focusing on utility prices; and how the Catholic Social Services
sector can be strengthened in its work of walking with and assisting
people in hope, justice and love.
The session will be facilited by Jacqui Remond, former director of Catholic Earthcare Australia,
and includes a smoking ceremony led by Sherry Balcombe of Aboriginal
Catholic Ministry Victoria; and contributions from Dr Miriam Rose
Ungunmerr Baumann, Aboriginal Elder from Nauiyu (Daly River) in the
Northern Territory; Gavin Dufty of St Vincent de Paul Society and
Bronwyn Lay of Jesuit Social Services.
If you care about the natural world and human flourishing, this
session is for you! Tickets for the Wednesday evening session only are
