Advocating for asylum seekers letter writing session
Do you intend to write letters to your MP on burning issues, but never translate it into action? Here’s your chance! Catholic Social Services Victoria's Welcome the Asylum Seeker Parish Support Program is hosting a lunchtime letter writing session on Tuesday, 5 December 2017 in the Cathedral Room, 383 Albert St East Melbourne, from 12.45pm to 1.30pm.
The goal is to write a letter or two to mail to your Member of Parliament or Senator, which is much more effective than email as it is harder to ignore. Agencies frequently indicate that letters do have an impact. When MPs receive many letters on an issue it sends a strong signal that people care and they must take some positive action.
Letters are very important to help achieve humane refugee and asylum seeker policy reform. Not only do they provide a mandate for organizations and sympathetic politicians to take action, they also require all politicians to go on the record with their actions, or inactions.
Bring your lunch and your colleagues. We will provide information sheets, writing paper, envelopes and stamps. Download flyer
