Evening Forum for Parishes - Strengthening Asylum Seeker and Refugee Support - 11 October

Parishes play an important role in providing support to refugees and asylum seekers. It is a central call of the Gospel to welcome the stranger, and to love our neighbours as Jesus loved. In this light, parishioners are invited to our upcoming evening forum to learn how we can strengthen support provided by parishes on Wednesday 11 October, from 6pm - 8.30pm in the Cathedral Room of the Cardinal Knox Centre.

The Australian Government has recently announced changes that will leave hundreds of people and young families transferred from Nauru or Manus Island without any financial support or housing. Meanwhile, more than 800 asylum seekers on Manus Island, most of whom have been assessed as refugees, have been told they must leave the detention centre so it can be closed. They fear that, once the detention centre is closed, Australia will leave them with no future and no hope in PNG. The Forum will discuss practical ways in which you and your parish can make a difference. Please let as many people as possible know about this!

Guest Speakers include Sr Brigid Arthur csb Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project; Isaiah, a young refugee man, and parish leaders in asylum seeker and refugee support.

Cost: $15.00
Book here by 5 October 2017.
