Seventy four people from 22 parishes, including two parishioners from Sandhurst Diocese together with several agency representatives attended the Forum at Cardinal Knox Centre, East Melbourne on 18 June 2015.  Despite the cold weather, the evening was a great success, with participants keen to consider how they might assist asylum seekers in our community.
Click here for the submission to the Victorian Royal Commission on Family Violence. Thanks to our Working Party for work on this, and for our ongoing project to play our part in building a safer community.

Thanks too to Patricia Faulkner and all who participated in the 2 June 2015 briefing and discussion with Patricia, a member of the Royal Commission into family violence. Marcelle Mogg from Catholic Social Services Australia reports on the Federal Budget: ‘The most remarkable thing about this Budget, in contrast with Prime Minister Abbott's promise of a fair Budget, is that so much of it relies on the re-election of a Coalition Government in 2016. Is it fair to make vulnerable Australians wait that long?'

Much is being done by parishes and organisations to welcome asylum seekers and refugees.  Our role is to help parishes in this work and to provide links to other parishes and agencies that may be able to help.
