CSSV attended the recent Victoria Police Chief Commissioner’s Youth Summit at the MCG on 21 July 2016. Over two hundred civic and welfare leaders attended this forum to discuss and address young people’s involvement in serious and violent crime and the trends in youth victimisation. It was particularly helpful and informative that a diverse group of young people were in attendance and made valuable contributions both personally and culturally to the discussion.
30 July 2016 marks the third World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The General Assembly of the United Nations declared that such a day was necessary to raise awareness of the situation of victims of human trafficking and for the promotion and protection of their rights.

Congratulations to Sr Bernadette Wallis MSS who is in the midst of launching The Silent Book. The book is a tribute to her family and the disappearing Australian-Irish Sign Language, as well as to the broader deaf community and its families. Proceeds from the sale of the book go to the John Wallis Foundation.

The 2016 Caroline Chisholm Centre for Health Ethics Conference is on The Challenges of Dementia. Over the next three decades, the number of people living with dementia in Australia will almost triple. This calls for significant changes both in Australian society, and in organisations which provide health, community and aged care.
