Marcelle Mogg from Catholic Social Services Australia reports on the Federal Budget: ‘The most remarkable thing about this Budget, in contrast with Prime Minister Abbott's promise of a fair Budget, is that so much of it relies on the re-election of a Coalition Government in 2016. Is it fair to make vulnerable Australians wait that long?'

Much is being done by parishes and organisations to welcome asylum seekers and refugees.  Our role is to help parishes in this work and to provide links to other parishes and agencies that may be able to help.

Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas MP brought down the Andrews Government’s first budget on Tuesday 5 May.  The budget was largely aligned with pre-election commitments, and tended to favour those on the margins of our society.

Andrew Chan, Myuran Sukumaran and their companions did not deserve to die - life is sacred, and execution is not a just punishment.  May they now rest in peace, and may their families and those close to them be consoled by the support they have received from the broader community.

As we hold all affected in our thoughts and prayers, may we recommit to working for more just structures, including the abolition of capital punishment throughout the world, and the just and humane treatment of all within the criminal justice system, in Australia and abroad.
